You’ll lead Zoom’s U.S. state and local tax strategy, compliance, and audit defense. You’ll partner across Finance, Legal, Revenue, and Engineering while driving automation and AI‑powered improvements. You’ll shape how a fast‑growing tech company manages complex, evolving tax obligations.
About the TeamOur team delivers accurate, defensible state and local tax outcomes across Zoom’s product lines. We collaborate closely with Finance, Legal, Revenue, and Engineering to solve complex tax challenges. Our work protects the business as it scales into new markets and products.
Responsibilities- Leading U.S. state and local income tax and indirect tax strategy, compliance, and audit defense across all business lines, including sales, use, corporate income, gross receipts, telecom, and property taxes.
- Partnering with Product, Engineering, and Finance teams to ensure accurate tax configuration and reporting, including taxability structure for new product launches and compliance with SaaS, conference bridging, and VoIP tax regulations.
- Driving automation and AI initiatives that streamline tax validation, research, and exemption processes.
- Advising legal and revenue teams on tax implications for contracts, pricing, and new product launches.
- Mentoring and developing the tax team while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate 15+ years of experience in state and local tax, including telecom and SaaS industries.
- Serve as a thought leader on state and local direct and indirect taxes amid an evolving legal and technological landscape.
- Manage SALT audits and lead cross‑functional tax technology initiatives.
- Communicate complex tax positions clearly to senior leadership and non‑tax stakeholders.
- Apply foundational knowledge of US GAAP, ASC 450, and ASC 740 requirements in accounting for above‑the‑line and below‑the‑line financial statement impacts of state and local taxes.
- Leverage billing, ERP, and tax technology platforms to ensure accurate transaction‑level reporting and rollout enhancements to solutions such as Oracle, Zuora, Avalara, ECM, and Service Now.
- Lead and develop teams while managing competing priorities under deadlines.
- Apply AI tools and data platforms to support tax research and operations.
- Hold a bachelor’s in accounting, finance, or a related field or equivalent practical experience; CPA or JD preferred.
