Actuary, Risk Manager/Analyst
Support pricing and reserving decisions for personal lines products by building and refining statistical models — an ideal role for early-career actuaries pursuing FSA or FCAS credentials while contributing to real portfolio outcomes.
About the RoleOur actuarial team supports homeowners, auto, and umbrella product lines across 14 states. As Actuarial Analyst, you will develop loss-development triangles, frequency-severity models, and territorial relativity analyses that feed directly into rate filings and reserve opinions. You will work in R, Python, and SAS alongside our proprietary reserving platform.
The position is based in Hartford with full remote eligibility after a 90-day on-site onboarding period. You will report to the Assistant Vice President of Actuarial Services and collaborate daily with underwriting, product management, and data engineering teams.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities- Build and maintain loss-development triangles for quarterly reserve reviews
- Perform GLM-based rating analyses to identify territorial and classification inadequacies
- Prepare rate-filing exhibits and supporting documentation for state regulatory submissions
- Automate recurring reports using Python and SQL to reduce manual processing time
- Collaborate with data engineers to validate loss and premium data pipelines
- Present findings to non-technical stakeholders in underwriting and product management
A bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a related quantitative field. You should have passed at least two SOA or CAS preliminary exams. Proficiency in R or Python is required; SAS experience is a strong advantage.
We invest in your credentials: 100% exam fee coverage, paid study days, and raise-on-pass incentives through fellowship.
Our exam support program is among the most generous in the industry. For each exam passed, you receive a salary increase and a study-hours bank for the next sitting. Senior actuaries on staff serve as formal mentors, and our internal study group meets weekly during exam season. The path from Analyst to credentialed Fellow is structured, supported, and celebrated here.
