What Is the Opportunity?

Within the Business Insurance Credit Risk Management team at Travelers, credit analysts play a critical role in managing the credit risk exposure created by loss sensitive insurance programs. As a Credit Analyst, you will produce account, prospect, and industry credit reports and analysis to protect the Company from inappropriate credit risk while supporting retention and new business goals. In this role you will handle routine and complex credit situations with a high degree of independence, resolve difficult issues, and identify opportunities to strengthen the Company's credit risk position.

You will apply highly developed analytical, conceptual, and technical skills to evaluate financial information and make sound credit and collateral recommendations.

What Will You Do?
  • Serve as the primary Credit Risk Management analyst and contact for assigned industry sectors, partnering with agents, brokers, customers, and business units on credit risk exposure of accounts.
  • Perform credit analysis of prospects and customers within assigned industry sectors, producing accurate, timely credit ratings with appropriate documentation, and make sound credit and collateral recommendations that support retention and new business goals.
  • Collaborate with marketing and underwriting teams, including participation in client and prospect calls, in the renewal and new business process, while maintaining confidentiality of client financial information.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts — including investment community contacts, brokers, clients, billing and collections, and management — regarding credit risk, account documentation, and collateral issues.
  • Conduct target market research and gather competitive intelligence on a business group, industry, region, or account-specific basis, and communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and implement enhancements; support the evaluation of systems and methodologies used in the credit analysis process.
  • Participate in client investor presentations and industry associations and engage in ongoing educational opportunities to expand credit and industry knowledge.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • 7 years of experience in credit risk management, financial analysis, and/or risk assessment.
  • Master's Degree.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or other professional designation.
  • Background in financial analysis, risk assessment, and portfolio management.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to balance timeliness and accuracy.
  • Solid knowledge of an assigned industry segment with exposure to marketing and underwriting functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels and to work independently and as part of a team.
What is a Must Have?
  • Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related discipline.
  • 5 years of experience in increasingly responsible positions in credit risk management or financial analysis.
