Schedule- Second
Shift:- Thursday through Monday, 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm
- Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, 3:30 pm – 11:30 pm
- Third Shift (Weekends):
- Friday 11:30 pm – Saturday 7:30 am
- Saturday 11:30 pm – Sunday 7:30 am

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is dedicated to conserving, improving, and protecting natural resources and the environment while expanding access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy. The Bureau of Outdoor Recreation includes the Parks, Environmental Conservation Police, and Boating Divisions. The mission of the State Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) Division is to protect natural resources and promote public safety through education, outreach, and enforcement.
Responsibilities- Operate radio communication equipment and receive and dispatch radio messages on an assigned shift
- Provide a communications link for personnel in the field or agency headquarters
- Relay information and requests for assistance to appropriate jurisdictions
- Operate computer equipment
- Operate Voter system to determine radio transmission capability
- Advise other agencies on incidents of special concern
- Dispatch emergency response teams of the agency
- Operate computer assisted dispatch (CAD), National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and Connecticut On-Line Law Enforcement Communications Teleprocessing (COLLECT) systems
- Maintain initial incident report
- Maintain written records and logs of shift activity
- Interpret and relay information to field personnel
- Contact and may coordinate with agency units and/or agencies such as Federal Aviation Administration, Coast Guard, State Police and local public safety agencies
- Interpret and apply state statutes and regulations pertaining to environmental protection issues
- Independently respond to calls from the general public
- Provide general information or referrals to the general public
- Determine and evaluate whether emergency or non-emergency situations exist, prioritize and take appropriate action
- May prepare reports
- Perform related duties as required
- Knowledge of communication equipment operation and monitoring, state and federal laws, radio communication terminology, and regulations governing radio communications equipment
- Interpersonal skills and computer keyboarding skills
- Ability to listen and communicate calmly and courteously with the public and emergency personnel in both emergency and non-emergency situations
- Speak proper English and enunciate clearly
- Function and react calmly, effectively, and efficiently under stress
- Determine priorities among multiple issues and analyze problems to take appropriate action
- Exercise discretion in handling confidential information
- Follow oral and written instructions
- Maintain manual and electronic records
One (1) year of experience in dispatching and operation of communication equipment.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with computer assisted dispatch (CAD), National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and CT On-Line Law Enforcement Communications Teleprocessing (COLLECT) systems
- Experience interpreting and applying conservation enforcement state and federal laws, statutes, regulations, and procedural guidelines
