Registered Dietitian - Hartford - 20 hours​/week

Registered Dietitian (RD) provides medical nutrition therapy to patients of Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Serves as a resource for caregivers and families. Assesses nutritional status, develops, documents, and implements nutritional plans. Counsels patients and families to improve outcomes, participates with interdisciplinary teams, and presents educational in‑services to the medical team.

Evidenced Based Clinical Practice

• Completes and delivers care according to the Nutrition Care Process (assessment, nutrition diagnosis, intervention, monitoring, and evaluation). (15%)
• Develop, document and implement the nutrition plan. (10%)
• Interact with interdisciplinary teams to promote nutritional care. (10%)
• Serve as a nutrition access coordinator especially for home care and area pediatricians. (5%)

Education/Lifelong Learning

• Provide education and counseling to caregivers, pediatric patients, and families. (10%)
• Provide education to MDs, RNs, and other disciplines; communicate recommendations, monitor status, and adjust therapy. (15%)
• Remain up to date on research and best practice standards. (3%)
• Serve as mentor/trainer for new staff and dietetic interns. (2%)

Process Improvement

• Participate in department QI activities, maintain monthly stats and reports, complete chart audits and peer reviews. (5%)
• Identify clinical safety or efficiency issues and communicate to stakeholders. (5%)

Clinical Leadership and Expertise

• Develop and implement practice protocols for ongoing quality improvement; participate in hospital research. (5%)
• Provide guidance to diet technicians and milk technicians. (5%)
• Serve as preceptor for students, interns, residents, fellows. (5%)
• Demonstrate knowledge of age‑related needs from pre‑term neonate through adolescence and cultural sensitivity. (5%)
• Support mission, values, goals of the organization. (4%)
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. (1%)

Education and/or Experience Required

• Bachelor (before 2024) or Master (after 2024) of Science in Nutrition and completion of an Accredited Didactic Internship Program or Accredited Coordinated Program per CDR and ACEND leading to registration eligibility.

Education and/or Experience Preferred

• Master (before 2024), PhD or DCN in Nutrition and completion of an Accredited Didactic Internship Program or Accredited Coordinated Program per CDR and ACEND.
• Two to five years of pediatric experience preferred.

License and/or Certification Required

• Registered Dietitian (RD) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
• CT State Certification (CD‑N) required on hire.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider required within six months of hire.

License and/or Certification Preferred

• Specialty certifications through CDR or ASPEN such as Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition or Certified Nutrition Support Clinician.
