Dining Room Supervisor

Position located at Avery Heights, The Heights, Hartford, CT.

Reports to:

Director of Dining Services, Independent Living.

BROAD FUNCTION

To provide the finest dining room service to residents, their families, administration, corporate personnel, and other guests for the facility. Daily meals, service for special functions and to our residents and guests will meet or exceed Church Homes’ standards of hospitality.

The dining room supervisor is charged with the overall responsibilities and accountability for the day‑to‑day operations of the Dining Room of The Heights and services required for special catered events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, organize, staff, direct, and coordinate all dining room activities of The Heights in accordance with Church Homes’ goals.
  • Prepare bi‑monthly employee schedules in collaboration with the Director of Dining Room Services.
  • Attend weekly departmental meetings and in‑service training classes; offer input as required.
  • Maintain a register of meals taken per resident, extra meals, guest meals, and special requests; submit monthly charges and credits.
  • Set up for special functions and activities as required.
  • Maintain a good rapport with the residents by interacting with them daily; consult with the Executive Chef on any feedback.
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary environment of the dining room and work stations.
  • Ensure dining room staff is adhering to side job schedules.
  • Ensure staff and dining room are ready for scheduled opening times, and that proper service is provided throughout meal times.
  • Report to work on time as scheduled and in proper attire.
  • Direct the delivery of a dining room service consistent with the menu and service standards of a fine hotel.
  • Operate within a budget.
  • Continuously assess resident satisfaction and employ strategies aimed at assuring the highest level of satisfaction.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute any and all special functions.
  • Hire, discipline, and prepare employee performance evaluations as required.
  • Supervise all dining room wait staff.
  • When working the same shift as the Director of Dining Room Services, perform all waitress duties, assuming responsibility that all side work is completed.
  • Other duties as delegated by the Director of Dining Room Services.
  • PERSONNEL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
  • Engage in no activities that could result in a conflict of interest, such as outside employment that compromises business or resident relationships. Do not accept appointment as a resident’s power of attorney, trustee, conservator, or healthcare proxy unless a qualified relative.
  • Engage in no activities related to residents’ personal finances and no financial transactions with residents; accept no money from residents or purchase anything from them.
  • Promote a productive atmosphere, facilitate teamwork, and treat fellow employees with respect and consideration.
  • Show conscientious attendance to provide the best possible service to residents, families, and employees.
  • Demonstrate propriety and act in a manner that will not result in personal gain.
  • Abide by all work rules and employment practices.
  • Use property and equipment only for officially approved activities; maintain responsibility for care and maintenance of facilities and other equipment; use telephone and mail solely for business purposes.
  • Engage only in activities directly related to the facility’s mission and the orders of the management staff; prohibit solicitation of funds for other organizations, sales, or recruiting memberships in other organizations.
  • Demonstrate courteous behavior through respectful and polite communication with all residents and co‑workers.
