Senior Solution Architect

Position Summary

The Senior Solution Architect is accountable for business solution designs for key strategic initiatives, including (but not limited to) developing architectures that represent business, applications/integration, data, infrastructure, platform, and security architectures. In this role you will create solution architecture for key strategic initiatives, partnering within Data, Digital, Analytics, and Technology teams.

• End to End Solution Architecture:
  Drives solutions from cradle to grave for a given enterprise‑grade system or systems.
• Buy vs Build Analysis:
  Performs Buy versus Build analysis based on qualitative and quantitative analysis across available options to provide a final recommendation.
• Architecture and Design Reviews:
  Contributes to architecture design reviews within the Architecture community to drive modernization opportunities for the advancement of Aetna technology while considering the complexities of our IT landscape.
• Trusted Advisor:
  Acts as a trusted advisor to application, security, and platform teams, driving alignment on strategies and patterns.
• Application Profile Identification:
  Leverages technical expertise and domain knowledge to identify Aetna apps targeted for refactor and optimization for cloud.
• Proof of Concept Technology Support:
  Contributes to proofs‑of‑concept and technology deep‑dives specific to partner technologies.
• “Whatever it takes” Attitude to help clear technical roadblocks:
  Advises and assists Application development teams with technical roadblocks such as performance challenges within a solution.
• Cost Optimization Identification:
  Engages with stakeholders to recommend or assess opportunities to drive cost efficiencies aimed at simplicity, configurability, and eventual elimination of technical debt associated with Aetna applications.
• Tech Debt:
  Manages tech debt within a given portfolio and develops solution proposals to reduce it.

• 5+ years of design/development experience.
• 1+ years of hands‑on cloud implementation experience.
• Technical subject matter expertise and domain knowledge.
• Hands‑on understanding of cloud design and architecture for one or more public cloud service provider (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.) to deliver large‑scale distributed solutions across the full enterprise stack.
• Hands‑on technical skills in application, data, integration, and security architecture/design.
• Hands‑on understanding of APIs (REST, Graph
  
  QL, gRPC, etc.) and microservices‑based architecture is a must.
• Experience with technologies that act as glue between modern applications and legacy infrastructure leveraging streaming platforms like Kafka.
• Ability to collaborate with Aetna Tech, Enterprise Architecture, Operations, and Security to deliver solutions.
• Experience with enterprise development tools and methodologies (XP, Agile) including Dev Sec Ops  and Data Ops.
• Hands‑on coding skills and proficiency in modern technology stacks (Cloud, Dev Ops, Kafka, etc.).
• Understanding of both SQL and No
  
  SQL database technologies as well as cloud database technologies.
• Demonstrable hands‑on experience is a must.
• Facilitates adoption of cloud‑native/cloud‑first architecture.
• Experience integrating with legacy mainframe/mid‑range applications, including developing roadmaps for modernization of the applications.

• Experience in the Healthcare Payor Industry is a plus.
• AWS/GCP/Azure Architect cloud certification is preferred.
• Architectural/technical understanding of Gen AI (RAG/chain frameworks, Vector DB searches and embeddings, Agentic AI, etc.).

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science/related field required or equivalent experience.
