Compensation Overview

Annual base salary range: $94,400.00 – $, subject to role scope, complexity, location, and candidate experience. Eligible for performance‑based incentives.

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers is seeking a Technology Operations Engineer I to join the Cross‑Platform Problem Management organization. The role focuses on reliability, scalability, and performance of critical systems through software engineering and infrastructure expertise, collaborating with development, product, infrastructure, and operations teams.

Responsibilities
  • Perform analysis, design, and implementation of reliability‑focused infrastructure, services, and tooling across cloud and on‑premises environments.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for service disruptions and identify opportunities for prevention and improved restoration.
  • Leverage AI to streamline identification of potential problems, trends, and solutions.
  • Define and implement technical requirements for infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, and deployment using Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) methodologies.
  • Design and enhance CI/CD pipeline workflows to improve deployment automation, rollback safety, and service reliability while resolving infrastructure issues of intermediate complexity.
  • Configure and optimize cloud‑based and on‑premises systems to ensure high availability, performance, and operational resilience.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and incident response systems while ensuring adherence to security protocols in both cloud and on‑premises deployments.
  • Work independently on well‑scoped SRE engineering problems while prioritizing tasks in alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with software, platform, and infrastructure engineers to improve system reliability, scalability, and performance across hybrid environments.
Qualifications
  • 3 years of site reliability/systems administration experience preferred.
  • 8+ years of network engineering experience supporting large‑scale hybrid cloud environments, including AWS.
  • Independent troubleshooting of service disruptions and implementation of change across LAN/WAN, load balancing, routing, switching, firewalls, DNS, and network security bundles.
  • Foundation in ITIL methodologies preferred.
  • Experience in Service Now a plus.
  • Demonstrated track record of reliability expertise, understanding system reliability concepts, and in‑depth knowledge of immediate systems worked on.
  • Intermediate delivery skills to deliver reliability work at a steady, predictable pace, decompose assignments into small batches, and contribute to architecture trade‑offs.
  • Proven problem‑solving skills, including system debugging, proactive resolution of repetitive reliability problems, and ability to break down large problems into smaller manageable ones.
  • Strong communication skills enabling clear, concise interactions with team members and stakeholders; documentation and active listening.
  • Intermediate leadership capabilities with self‑motivation and initiative; commitment to professional development and willingness to take on increasing responsibilities.
Must Haves
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or equivalent work experience plus 2 years of technology operations or related engineering experience.
