Travelers is seeking a Lead Architect to join our Enterprise Technology Solutions organization, guiding the technology vision that enables business transformation.

Key focus areas include cloud‑native technologies, APIs, AI/ML, and emerging platforms to establish scalable architectures for current and future business applications.

• Lead architecture for multiple technology and business segments within a single business unit.
• Translate technology strategy and business direction into actionable architecture roadmaps aligned with organizational priorities.
• Identify and evaluate architectural opportunities and risks, providing clear recommendations to engineering leadership.
• Provide guidance on technical patterns, including event‑driven, request/response, CQRS, saga, and microservices.
• Conduct hands‑on prototyping and proof‑of‑concepts for emerging technologies.
• Design and document application‑level architectures for new and evolving systems, covering service decomposition, API design, data flow, and integration patterns.
• Author Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) capturing context, options, trade‑offs, and rationale, including AI service integration decisions.
• Present architectural design options to engineering teams and stakeholders, articulating pros, cons, risks, and trade‑offs.
• Address AI‑specific concerns such as latency tolerance, token cost management, output determinism, and graceful degradation.
• Provide hands‑on guidance, review designs, participate in technical discussions, and unblock implementation challenges.
• Communicate technology assessments and modernization progress to VP‑level leadership in business‑relevant terms.
• Build consensus and encourage buy‑in for architectural standards and modernization initiatives across teams.

• Bachelor’s degree in a technology‑related field or equivalent, with at least 8 years of architectural experience.
• Expert knowledge of cloud‑native application design on AWS.
• Strong grasp of application‑level architectural patterns, including microservices, event‑driven architecture, API design, data modeling, and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with integrating AI/ML services into application architectures, including LLM‑based capabilities, agentic patterns, and AI‑assisted decision workflows.
• Experience evaluating multiple solution approaches and communicating trade‑offs to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Understanding of AI orchestration concepts such as prompt chaining, tool use patterns, retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG), and workflow engines coordinating deterministic and AI steps.
• Extensive experience in an agile operational model with a record of supporting transformational change.
• Strong understanding of the insurance industry and its value‑creation opportunities.
• Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related STEM field, or equivalent experience.
• 7 additional years of architecture/software engineering experience.
• 2 years of technical leadership experience.
