Compensation & Benefits Overview

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers seeks a Sr. Director, Architecture to lead and grow the Enterprise Technology Solutions organization. The role guides the technology vision that enables business transformation, specializing in cloud‑native technologies, APIs, AI/ML, and emerging platforms. The incumbent will create enterprise‑wide solutions that bridge current capabilities with future possibilities, define target states, create roadmaps, and establish architectural frameworks to accelerate innovation while maintaining standards and governance.

What

Will You Do?
  • Lead one or more architecture teams within one or more segments or domains for a single business unit.
  • Define target state technology architecture and roadmaps; ensure alignment with enterprise standards and business objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to capitalize on technology advances through analysis of key industry and technology trends.
  • Define and lead technology proof of concepts to ensure feasibility of new architecture solutions.
  • Lead an architecture team within the Bond and Specialty Insurance division; execute the strategic architecture roadmap for platform modernization of Management Liability and Cyber products.
  • Drive a cohesive domain architecture and integration strategy (APIs, Events, Agents) across Product, Underwriting, Pricing, and Specialty Cyber domains.
  • Drive continuous technology transformation and modernization, including minimizing technical debt.
  • Provide thought leadership on modern architecture principles and technology modernization.
  • Collaborate with technology and business leaders to develop architecture priorities and direction that enable business imperatives.
  • Optimize talent strategy: attract, develop, engage, and retain high‑performing talent; set goals, provide feedback, and hold teams accountable.
  • Prepare and deliver communications to convey architectural direction and champion buy‑in.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • Technical Expertise &

    Education:

    Bachelor’s in technology or related field (or equivalent), 8–10 years of architecture experience, advanced architecture and strong hands‑on engineering experience with modern technologies (Guidewire, AWS Cloud, microservices). Proven execution of complex, large‑scale technology strategies.
  • Leadership & Influence: Extensive leadership experience with proven ability to influence enterprise‑wide technology and business decisions; record of mentoring architects and engineers, leading large cross‑functional teams, aligning multi‑team goals with organizational mission, and fostering collaboration.
  • Strategic & Business Acumen: Experience in an agile operational model, supporting transformational change, adjusting plans and priorities in response to changing circumstances, understanding value creation and business capability models, and strong knowledge of the insurance industry.
  • Must Haves: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related STEM field (or equivalent), 7 additional years of architecture/software engineering experience, 2 years of technical leadership experience.
