QA Lead

Location:

Remote

Duration: 6+ months

About the Project

Aetna is expanding its clinical data interoperability initiatives, integrating with external EHRs and provider systems to ingest clinical data. This data is distributed internally across domains such as clinical claims, medical management, and other business units. As the organization increases its internal utilization of externally sourced clinical data, the number and complexity of use cases are growing rapidly. Several new vendors are being onboarded, each integrating with Aetna and streaming data into the system.

These efforts span multiple parallel tracks, including vendor implementation, data ingestion, infrastructure development, and AI capabilities. The QA Lead will be responsible for overseeing development testing for one of these tracks, working closely with a backend developer and cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality delivery.

Must-Haves (Concepts & Tools):

  • 7+ years of experience as a QA Engineer
  • Strong background in software testing
  • Proven leadership experience in QA roles
  • Healthcare domain expertise
  • Strong SQL skills and AWS Redshift experience
  • Data analytics experience
  • Familiarity with work item management tools such as Rally or Jira

What Will Win (formerly known as “Nice-to-Haves”):

  • Experience with test automation frameworks and tools

Soft Skill Requirements

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills

Why This Role Is Open

Due to the expansion of interoperability efforts and increased scope of clinical data utilization, Aetna is scaling its QA leadership capacity to support multiple concurrent development streams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain comprehensive test strategies tailored to complex healthcare IT projects
  • Establish and monitor test environment capabilities to support robust QA execution
  • Lead the creation of targeted test scenarios using statistically valid data sets
  • Perform hands-on testing of APIs, backend data flows, and UI components
  • Write and execute SQL queries (including AWS Redshift) for data validation and comparison
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and facilitate defect triage meetings
  • Mentor QA team members and review test scripts to ensure adherence to best practices
  • Oversee initial build-out of test automation and identify opportunities to expand automation coverage
  • Collaborate with developers, product owners, and analysts to ensure alignment on requirements and quality goals
  • Provide daily QA metrics and status updates to leadership
  • Actively contribute to test case design and execution, especially for complex integration and data-driven scenarios
