The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.

As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Travelers is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to join our organization as we grow and transform our Technology landscape. Individual will complete advanced software end to end engineering tasks that span many parts of a system including designing, developing, analyzing, configuring, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementing based on user or system specifications. Individual will also consult with users to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications, manage the effective use of resources, act as subject matter expert across multiple applications, systems and technologies, leverage technical and business knowledge to drive the planning and execution of complex initiatives, participate in the design/ development process, and provide technical leadership, while leading a team of SWE.

• People Leadership
  - Manage all aspects of HR accountability for the team, including hiring, performance management, career development, compensation decisions, and fostering an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture.
• Lead a team of Software engineers by providing technical guidance and mentorship while modeling Travelers' leadership behaviors.
• Direct complex design, development, analysis, configuration, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementation based on user or system specifications for impactful and high-visibility tasks.
• Lead investigation and resolution efforts for critical, high impact problems, defects, and incidents.
• Seek opportunities where technology can be utilized to improve the business and provide more efficient processes.
• Apply knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions for software engineering problems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• 5 years of related experience; including insurance / financial services industry experience.
• Hands-on experience with Git Hub Actions or equivalent enterprise pipeline tooling.
• Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating release management processes across multiple concurrent work streams in a large enterprise environment.
• Demonstrated experience implementing current technology trends and techniques (e.g., cloud-based solutions leveraging microservices).
• Interprets internal/ external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve SDLC processes.
• CI/CD Pipeline Ownership
  - Demonstrated experience designing, managing, and optimizing CI/CD pipelines using Git Hub Actions or equivalent tooling; ability to drive pipeline standardization and maturity across multiple engineering teams.
• Release Governance & Change Management
  - Proven track record establishing and enforcing release management processes, including change advisory oversight, release calendaring, and go/no-go decision frameworks across complex, multi-team delivery environments.
• Dev Sec Ops  Practices
  - Familiarity with integrating security tooling (SAST, DAST, dependency scanning, secrets detection) into CI/CD pipelines; experience partnering with security teams to shift left and maintain compliance without sacrificing delivery velocity.
• BI Platform Context
  - Experience working with or enabling engineering teams operating on platforms such as HSP, CPC, Trav Porter, and Kafka; ability to tailor Dev Sec Ops  practices to the constraints and requirements of a complex insurance technology ecosystem.
• Cross-Team Coordination
  - Demonstrated ability to align and coordinate across multiple BI Dev Sec Ops  teams, driving consistency in tooling, process, and release standards while respecting team autonomy and delivery cadences.
