Director of AI-Driven Software Engineering

As a Director of Software Engineering, Enterprise Artificial Intelligence, within the ED&A organization, you will collaborate with leaders, technologists and data and analytic experts across Travelers to drive holistic strategic efforts. Lead a team of software engineers revolutionizing the insurance industry through the power of artificial intelligence, acting as a player-coach.

Partner closely with a diverse set of stakeholders to lead the creation of modern software applications, drawing upon your expertise in the design, build and deployment of AI-based solutions.

Champion uses of Artificial intelligence across the enterprise through education, coaching and advocacy.

Manage resources effectively while balancing business objectives and the production of high-quality deliverables which adhere to standards and policies.

What Will You Do?

• Lead a team of Software engineers by providing technical guidance and mentorship while modeling Travelers’ leadership behaviors.
• Direct complex design, development, analysis, configuration, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementation based on user or system specifications for impactful and high-visibility tasks.
• Lead investigation and resolution efforts for critical, high impact problems, defects, and incidents.
• Seek opportunities where technology can be utilized to improve the business and provide more efficient processes.
• Apply knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions for software engineering problems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

• 5 years of related experience; including insurance / financial services industry experience.
• Demonstrated track record implementing current technology trends and techniques in the Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Computing Spaces, including Kubernetes, Python, Docker, AWS, LLMs, etc.
• Experience working with stakeholders to identify opportunities to educate on risks and opportunities in the delivery of AI-based solutions.
• Passion for Artificial Intelligence and for driving the adoption of AI-based technologies to improve business processes and outcomes.
• Critical-thinking engineering mindset and ability to triage problems which may be best solved by AI-solutions and those where more traditional solutions may be appropriate.
• Delivery – Advanced delivery skills including the ability to determine the software design strategy and methodology to be used for efforts, use automated tests, analysis, and informed feedback loops to ensure the quality and production readiness of work before release, monitor the health of work efforts and that of adjacent systems.
• Domain Expertise – Demonstrated track record of domain expertise including the ability to develop business partnerships and influence priorities by identifying solutions that are aligned with current business objective and closely follow industry trends relevant to domain, understanding how to apply them, and sharing knowledge with coworkers, specifically with Artificial Intelligence.
• Problem Solving – Strong problem solver who utilizes data and proofs of concepts to find creative solutions to difficult problems, reflects on solutions, measuring their impact, and uses that information to ideate and optimize. Also adept at making decisions that involve a significant number of factors with broad implications.
