Overview

Summary:

Based in South Windsor, CT, and reporting to the Director of Operations, the General Manager is responsible for the full performance of the assigned site(s), aligning with the company’s core values and Operational Excellence. The General Manager oversees day-to-day operations, staff management, growth strategy development, budget creation, cross-department efficiency, and driving overall business performance by implementing strategic goals set by upper management.

Responsibilities
  • Full leadership and management accountability for safety, quality, on-time delivery, and P&L performance.
  • Achieve or exceed safety, quality, service, cost, business development, and sales growth goals for the plant.
  • Deliver superior customer service, drive sales growth, and support local business development.
  • Lead retention, recruitment, training, and development of the plant leadership team to strengthen leadership and management skills; maintain appropriate staffing levels and depth.
  • Set standards and drive operational excellence; liaise daily with customers, quality, technical support, engineering support, and finance to meet plant goals.
  • Contribute to systemic improvements to enhance safety, quality, capacity, and capability of Bodycote’s processes; execute continuous improvement using six sigma and lean methodologies.
  • Foster a culture of customer service and develop long-term customer agreements, grow sales opportunities within the current customer base, and drive strategic growth plans.
  • Capital equipment planning, plant layouts, capital deployment, and overhead control.
  • Workforce planning, hiring, training, and ensuring full compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Manage the financial function of the business in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with coworkers, follow rules and procedures, and accept constructive criticism.
  • Maintain confidentiality of compensation information; do not disclose pay details to others as applicable.
Qualifications
  • ITAR compliance requirement; candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card Holders.
  • Education:

    BA/BS in business, technology, or related field; MS/MA preferred.
  • Eight years of heat treat experience in management or equivalent technical management experience.
  • Minimum of 12 years of industrial leadership experience in a complex environment.
  • At least 10 years of experience applying lean concepts with proven lean/six sigma project implementation.
  • Minimum of 10 years of proactive management of labor performance and handling employee issues.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong management skills with decision-making ability, goal setting, delegation, coaching, and motivation.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and databases.
  • Experience in business development, team building, and recruitment is desired.
  • Experience in industrial environments, industrial engineering, and supervisory experience in aerospace/defense is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AMS and MIL standards, ISO , MAAP policy, AS9100D, NADCAP, and related aerospace/defense standards.
Physical & Mental Demands
  • Ability to work in a seated position for extended periods (desk, travel, etc.) in office/industrial settings.
  • Manual dexterity for data entry.
  • Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity.
  • Capability to perform essential job functions with appropriate cognitive and mental capacity.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Visual acuity to read documents and screens; hearing ability for in-person and phone communication.
