Come join the team at United Steel, New England's largest fabricator and erector of Structural Steel and Miscellaneous Metals! If you have 5+ years' experience managing Structural Steel or Misc. Metals, United Steel wants to talk to you. Due to strong sales, we are currently looking to add a Project Manager to our team. The role of the Project Manager is to plan, direct, and coordinate activities of designated projects to ensure that goals or objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters while at the same time protecting the long‑term interest of the company and achieving the customer’s satisfaction.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • We are in a relationship business, wherein the applicant has a responsibility for future sales (in conjunction with the sales and estimating departments) by solidifying United Steel’s good name, and through building and maintaining relationships with clients, project managers, project superintendents, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Ensure that all knowledge of a project; including, but not limited to, safety, scope, proposal, special instructions, and overall method of construction, is vetted and transferred to the project manager and team.
  • Effectively manage your team and situations to the benefit of the company, building and maintaining customer relationships, and maximizing profits.
  • Pro‑actively anticipate, prepare for, and resolve situations that may become issues in the future; developing a plan to address the situation in a manner that supports the business and our relationship with the customer.
  • Ensure that all subcontracts & purchase agreements are put in place; and written in conformance with the requirements of the project documents, with all supporting documentation and in a manner that meets the needs of United Steel, Inc. and its clients.
  • Act as a liaison between detailers, architects and engineers, while documenting any communication that affects schedule, price, changes, special agreements and/or RFI’s.
  • Ensure that all communications, both internally and externally, are followed through in a manner that guarantees all necessary vendors, suppliers, engineers, detailers, as well as shop and field management are preceding accordingly to plans and schedules.
  • Expedite all Change Orders through the necessary departments (structural, misc.) as well as RFI’s and submittals to clients, without delay; and document same according to internal procedures.
  • Follow‑up on submitted Change Orders on a continuing basis to ensure the prompt resolution of same.
  • Review project status with financial information and reconcile all discrepancies.
  • Review and approve all project invoices from detailers, erectors, outside vendors; and process to purchasing department for final review.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate billing of customer on a monthly basis, and review & follow‑up with customer on delinquent payments.
  • Ensure constant and consistent follow‑up with field operations; then follow through on information obtained.
  • Travel to project sites for weekly/bi‑weekly job meetings and coordinate with customer, design team, and other subcontractors affecting our work.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules in conformance with contract requirements, identifying key milestones and critical path.
  • Coordinate deliveries from the shop and vendors, ensuring that they are timely and within planned schedules.
  • Maintain internal procedural communication methods such as daily and weekly reports, as well as schedules for structural and miscellaneous metals.
  • Responsible for project closeout and all necessary information as it relates to billing and documentation.
  • Assist Director of Project Management in the development of policies and procedures.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; apprising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees, within his/her team.
