GENERAL FUNCTION
The Finishing Service Technician is responsible for installing, training, repairing, & maintaining lens finishing systems & finishing ophthalmic equipment at customer sites. This hands-on, customer-facing role plays a critical part in ensuring the performance, reliability, & satisfaction of equipment post-installation.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Travel to customer sites to install a wide range of ophthalmic & finishing equipment.
- Unpack, assemble, & test equipment prior to handoff.
- Connect systems to required power, water, drain, & network sources as applicable.
- Provide on-site instruction to operators on equipment use, maintenance, & troubleshooting.
- Communicate effectively with customers to ensure understanding of system operation & care.
- Diagnose & resolve equipment issues, coordinating with technical support when needed.
- Manage requests for part replacements & ensure prompt service resolution.
- Provide phone-based technical assistance to customers as required.
- Perform preventative maintenance & repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Record all service activities accurately in the Service Management Software.
- Partner with Technical Support, Sales, & Customer Service teams to ensure timely updates on service & installation status.
- Complete all required service documentation, reports, & paperwork accurately & on time.
- Maintain proper inventory of parts & tools.
- Provide technical assistance for trade shows, including equipment setup, connectivity, demonstrations, & teardown.
- Associate’s Degree in Electronics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
- 2–4 years of experience in technical field service, equipment installation, or repair—preferably within the optical, ophthalmic, or medical device industries.
- Ability to read & interpret schematics, diagrams, & technical manuals.
- Working knowledge of electrical & mechanical systems.
- Understanding of basic networking & TCP/IP protocols.
- Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, & Service Management Systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics GP).
- Comfort with mathematical & statistical concepts for troubleshooting & calibration.
- Ability to lift, move, & transport equipment up to 50 pounds safely, using appropriate tools or assistance as needed.
- Manual dexterity for handling small tools & components.
- Willingness & ability to travel frequently (up to 75%) with occasional overnight stays.
- Experience in the ophthalmic, optical, or medical device industry.
- Experience with ophthalmic or optical finishing equipment.
- Familiarity with Practice Management System (PMS) integrations & equipment networking.
- Experience working in an ISO- or GMP-regulated environment.
