Hartford Volunteer Reader Coordinator VISTA

ABOUT THE PROJECT:
The VISTA Volunteer Reader Coordinator will help break the cycle of poverty. There are currently 2 positions available. One position focuses in North Hartford and the other has an expanded scope in Hartford and New Britain. The outcome of this work is to provide literacy supports to children from birth to third grade. The project aims to improve reading proficiency and prepare students for academic success by fourth grade.

The Coordinator will recruit and train volunteers, including for the United Way Readers program, to provide literacy-based interventions that support early childhood development and help children achieve their full potential.

• As the Volunteer Reader Coordinator, you will be responsible for working with school and partner agency staff to develop a plan to increase student enrollment and participation.
• You will evaluate program materials and update training materials and onboarding resources.
• Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a recruitment strategy to identify new volunteers and coordinate program schedule and assignments.
• You will track volunteer engagement, provide on-site program support, and monitor program performance and student improvement.
• Furthermore, you will develop regular volunteer communications, evaluate volunteer experience, gather feedback, and coordinate recognition events.
• You will attend regular team meetings, report to your supervisor, and perform other assigned duties as necessary.
