Registered Nurse; RN - OR General Surgery

Job Description

Registered nurses work in collaborative environments with strong interdisciplinary teams, focused on a patient‑centered care model in a richly diverse workspace. Under the direction and general supervision of the Nurse Manager, the registered nurse utilizes evidence‑based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies, procedures, and medical staff direction. The registered nurse applies the nursing process to develop a plan of care that incorporates standards of practice to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of patients and families.

Minimum Requirements

• Education:
  
  Graduate of a school of nursing.
• Experience:
  
  One (1) year of nursing experience or successful completion of The William W. Backus Hospital Nurse Residency Program.
• License and Certification:
  Current unrestricted License in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut;
  Current Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire;
  Must obtain and maintain department‑specific certifications.

Preferred Requirements

• Education:
  
  BSN or MSN.
• Experience:
  
  Two (2) or more years in this specific clinical area.
• License and Certification:
  Certification in a clinical area; CNOR certification.

• Basic knowledge of nursing principles and practices.
• Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions.
• Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, employees, physicians, managers, and patients.
• Must be able to handle multiple priorities, be flexible, and work as a team player.
• Must work well in a stressful environment and commit to customer service.
• Basic computer knowledge for entering and retrieving data.

• Requires high level of analytical ability to gather and interpret information from various sources.
• Must be able to take the appropriate action in response to changes, circumstances, problems, or emergency situations.
• Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
