Position Description
Ryder is hiring a Senior Level Diesel Technician in Hartford, Connecticut.
Compensation & Benefits- Hourly Pay: $35.75 per hour
- Certification Bonus of $100 for each new ASE certification up to $700
- Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter
- Sign On Bonus: $1,750 at 30 days and $1,750 at 90 days
- Schedule:
Monday–Friday, weekends off - Hours:
Second Shift 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm - Medical, dental, vision after 30 days
- 80 hours PTO first year, starting day 1

- Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including preventive maintenance
- Diagnose complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers
- Complete complex and detailed mechanical inspections & repairs with minimal supervision
- Replace defective components as instructed
- Work unsupervised on most tasks
- Perform facility maintenance duties
- Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
- Utilize key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
- Work in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines
- Act as mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels
- Demonstrate ability to access and use internal and external maintenance documents
- Other support duties as required (e.g., Service Island support)
- SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT
220) - Complete 2 of the OEM on‑line diagnostic scan tool software courses (within 365 days)
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- Vocational or technical certification or post‑secondary degree (preferred)
- Basic tools required
- Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventive maintenance, oil changes, brake and tire work
- Basic diagnostics and repairs, including AC and electrical systems (required)
- Three or more years relevant work experience (preferred)
- All other certifications required by location (required)
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
- Minimum 2 years experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑duty and medium‑duty equipment
- Computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
- Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
- Pass a Ryder drug test
- Pass DOT physical
- Pass Ryder road test
- Pass Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for last 3 years
