Position Overview
Senior Level Diesel Technician – Hartford, Connecticut.
Ryder is hiring a Senior Level Diesel Technician in Hartford, Connecticut – a stable company offering weekly pay and excellent benefits.
Compensation- Hourly Pay: $35.75 per hour
- Certification Bonus: $100 per new ASE certification (up to $700)
- Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 each quarter
- Sign‑On Bonus: $1,750 at 30 days and $1,750 at 90 days
- Monday–Friday, weekends off
- Second Shift: 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm
- Medical, Dental, Vision after 30 days
- 80 hours PTO in first year, starting Day 1

- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- Vocational or technical certification or post‑secondary degree (preferred)
- Basic tools required
- Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
- Basic diagnostics and repairs, including AC and electrical systems (required)
- Three (3) years or more relevant work experience (preferred)
- All other certifications required by location (required)
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
- Minimum 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑duty and medium‑duty equipment
- Knowledge of PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
- Must obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
- Must pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and background & motor‑vehicle check including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
- Must be able to drive Ryder vehicles
- Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including standard and preventive maintenance
- Diagnose complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers when applicable
- Complete detailed mechanical inspections and repairs with minimal supervision
- Replace defective components as instructed
- Work unsupervised on most tasks
- Perform facility maintenance duties
- Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaints once assigned a task
- Utilize key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
- Work in accordance with all federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (e.g., safety, DOT, MOT)
- Act as a mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels
- Access and use internal and external maintenance documents
- Provide other support duties as required to support operations (e.g., Service Island support)
- SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT
220) - Complete 2 of the OEM Online diagnostic scan tool software courses as required by location fleet mix within 365 days
