Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range for this position is $ - $. The actual salary will be determined by factors such as the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. Employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Opportunity

Travelers is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our organization as we grow and transform our Technology landscape. The individual will complete advanced software end‑to‑end engineering tasks that span many parts of a system including designing, developing, analyzing, configuring, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementing based on user or system specifications. The individual will also consult with users to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications, manage the effective use of resources, act as subject matter expert across multiple applications, systems and technologies, leverage technical and business knowledge to drive the planning and execution of complex initiatives, participate in the design/development process, and provide technical leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of tools and processes as part of the SDLC+ effort to enhance efficiency.
  • Identify new best practices within the SDLC, create tools (including automation and GenAI), and coach/mentor PI members across all job families.
  • Engage with the enterprise to help drive strategic direction and provide high‑visibility leadership within PI.
  • Perform complex analysis, advanced level design, configuration, and development for high‑impact tasks.
  • Direct and implement solutions for moderately complex, loosely scoped problems aligned with team goals.
  • Lead resolution efforts for critical, high impact problems, defects, and incidents.
  • Advocate technology opportunities to improve business processes.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship while fostering a team environment.
  • Apply knowledge of industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions within assigned efforts.
  • Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Five years of programming/development experience; preferred. Experience with Python, React, AWS toolsets (CDK), Terraform, Jenkins, JavaScript, Type Script, API Development, Git Hub, AI, GenAI.
  • Advanced delivery skills including determining design strategy, methodology, automated testing, analysis, and informed feedback loops to ensure quality and production readiness.
  • Domain expertise: demonstrated track record of developing business partnerships, influencing priorities, aligning solutions with business objectives, and following industry trends relevant to the domain.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills using data, proof of concepts, and decision making with broad implications.
  • Excellent communication: describe technology concepts in business‑friendly terms, document initiatives concisely, collaborate effectively, extract core issues, provide constructive feedback, and listen attentively.
  • Understanding of the SDLC; familiarity with AI‑based tooling and outcome‑driven product development.
  • Agile methodology experience; motivated self‑starter with leadership growth potential.
  • Solid technical background in programming/architecture methodologies.
Must Haves

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or equivalent in education and/or work experience. Six additional years of software engineering experience.
