Position: Sr Software Engineer (Engineering Enablement Lead)

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers is seeking an Sr Software Engineer (Engineering Enablement lead) to grow and transform our technology landscape through AI‑driven engineering practices. The role blends technical leadership, product ownership, and team management to influence how engineering is done across Claim Technology.

What Will You Do?
  • Shape and communicate the technical direction for AI‑driven engineering across the Engineering Enablement organization.
  • Own and actively manage the Engineering Enablement product roadmap, defining, prioritizing, and sequencing work with stakeholders.
  • Engage credibly across the full software engineering lifecycle, providing hands‑on technical depth.
  • Lead and develop the engineers within the AI Enablement & Experience circle, fostering a high‑performing culture.
  • Direct and implement solutions to moderately complex, loosely scoped problems prioritized for the highest value.
  • Deliver efforts independently and by leading other team members, modeling AI‑driven engineering behaviours.
  • Lead investigation and resolution of critical, high‑impact problems, defects, and incidents using AI‑driven diagnostic techniques.
  • Act as a technology advocate, seeking opportunities for AI to improve design, build, and delivery at task, process, and system levels.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship while fostering AI fluency and continuous learning.
  • Apply current industry trends, especially AI, developer tooling, and engineering productivity, to formulate solutions and share knowledge.
  • Represent the Engineering Enablement organization in discussions with enterprise and claim leadership, translating technical strategy into business narratives.
  • Partner with the Engineering Enablement organization leader on strategic planning, organizational decisions, stakeholder engagement, and value demonstration.
  • Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge at the intersection of AI, product management, organizational design, and culture change.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Five years of programming/development experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical leadership and product ownership within an engineering organization.
  • Advanced delivery skills: software design strategy, use of automated tests, data‑driven feedback loops, and monitoring of work health.
  • Experience applying AI‑driven automation and instrumentation to improve delivery quality and velocity.
  • Strong product ownership discipline: sequencing work, stakeholder alignment, and measurable outcomes.
  • Domain expertise: ability to develop business partnerships, influence priorities, and apply industry trends.
  • Deep expertise in AI‑driven engineering practices, developer experience, engineering enablement, and product management.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills using data and proofs of concepts, rapid prototyping, and AI experimentation.
  • Excellent communication: ability to translate technology concepts for business, document initiatives concisely, collaborate across roles, and present to executive audiences.
  • Advanced leadership skills: decisive action, motivation, influencing teams, building relationships, earning trust, and driving transformation.
Must Have

Minimum qualifications:

a bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or equivalent education/work experience and a total of 11+ years of software engineering experience.
