The annual base salary range for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries across the country. The actual salary will be determined by factors such as scope, complexity, location, skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate. Employees are also eligible for performance‑based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?Travelers is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our organization as we grow and transform our Technology landscape. The individual will complete advanced end‑to‑end engineering tasks for specific system assignments including designing, developing, analyzing, configuring, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementing based on user or system specifications, consulting with users to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications, managing interaction between the systems and other technical support areas and defining technical requirements and coordinating team resources to solve problems.
Responsibilities- Lead a team of software engineers.
- Distribute work based on team members’ skills, capacity, and development goals.
- Review team members’ code for quality, performance, and adherence to standards.
- Help resolve complex technical challenges and remove technical blockers.
- Guide developers, provide technical mentorship, and support career growth.
- Evaluate and recommend tools, frameworks, and technologies for the team to use.
- Perform analysis, design, development, and configuration functions with a high degree of accuracy and speed, operating as an individual contributor to team goals.
- Perform analysis, assessment and resolution for defects and incidents of advanced complexity and accelerate appropriately.
- Work independently to tackle well‑scoped and loosely scoped problems.
- Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Leadership skills with the ability to create a safe environment for others to learn and grow as engineers and a proven track record of self‑motivation in identifying opportunities and tracking team efforts.
- Six years of programming/development experience preferred.
- Experience with Typescript, JavaScript and AWS highly desired.
- Intermediate delivery skills including the ability to estimate accurate timelines for tasks, deliver work at a steady, predictable pace, contribute to the software design strategy and methodologies, avoid over‑engineering, ensure automation, release solutions in small batches, identify tradeoffs and negotiate them.
- Demonstrated track record of domain expertise, including understanding technical concepts necessary to do the job, awareness of industry trends, willingness to cooperate with business issues and priorities, and deep knowledge of immediate systems worked on.
- Strong problem‑solving skills: ensuring long‑term solutions, resolving new issues, learning from mistakes, and breaking down large problems into smaller ones.
- Strong communication skills: articulating information clearly, documenting work concisely, collaborating well, asking clarifying questions, providing feedback, receiving constructive criticism, and listening.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Additional four years of software engineering experience.
