Travelers is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our organization as we grow and transform our Technology landscape. The individual will complete advanced software end‑to‑end engineering tasks that span many parts of a system, including designing, developing, analyzing, configuring, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring and alerting, and implementing based on user or system specifications. The individual will also consult with users to determine hardware, software, or system functional specifications, manage the effective use of resources, act as a subject‑matter expert across multiple applications, systems and technologies, leverage technical and business knowledge to drive the planning and execution of complex initiatives, participate in the design/development process, and provide technical leadership.

• The position is for a Senior Software Engineer within the PI Engineering chapter, focused on developing tools and processes as part of the SDLC+ effort to enhance efficiency. The role involves identifying new best practices within the SDLC, creating tools (utilizing automation including GenAI), and coaching/mentoring PI members across all job families in using these tools and processes. The effort also involves engagement with the enterprise to help drive strategic direction.
  
  This role will have high visibility within PI leadership based on the impact of the work completed.
• Perform complex analysis, advanced level design, configuration and develop functions for impactful and high‑visibility tasks.
• Take the lead on directing and implementing solutions to moderately complex, loosely scoped problems aligned with team goals.
• Deliver efforts both independently and by leading other team members.
• Lead investigation and resolution efforts for critical, high‑impact problems, defects, and incidents.
• Act as a technology advocate, independently seeking opportunities where technology can be utilized to improve the business.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship while fostering a team environment.
• Apply knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions within the context of assigned efforts.
• Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities.

• Five years of programming/development experience preferred.
• Experience with Python, React, AWS toolsets (CDK), Terraform, Jenkins.
• Experience with JavaScript, Type Script.
• Experience with API development.
• Experience with Git Hub.
• Experience with AI, GenAI.
• Advanced delivery skills including determining the software design strategy and methodology, using automated tests, analysis, and informed feedback loops to ensure quality and production readiness, monitoring health of work efforts.
• Domain expertise with a track record of developing business partnerships and influencing priorities by identifying solutions aligned with current business objectives and following industry trends.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities using data and proofs of concept to find creative solutions, measuring impact, and making decision‑making with broad implications.
• Strong communication skills, able to explain technology concepts in business terms, document initiatives concisely, collaborate effectively, extract core issues, give and receive feedback, offer help, and listen empathetically.
• Understanding of the SDLC.
