Software Engineer. Salary: $22/Hour. Company:
Netflix.
Location:
Hartford, Connecticut.
Educational requirements:
Bachelor Degree.
The Dev Spaces group’s central goal is to help designer efficiency by furnishing Netflix engineers with on‑request, batteries‑included development environments. By tightly integrating IDEs, dev tooling, cloud work spaces, and Netflix’s internal Stage, our engineering environments provide a development experience that guides engineers through the Netflix development lifecycle, limits linchpins, and decreases context switching.
Responsibilities- Coordinate IDEs with our in‑house remote workspace product, providing a natural, familiar, and responsive development experience.
- Decide how to pre‑introduce and pre‑configure IDEs for a wide range of professional personas—for example, a Backend Engineer using Java may need a different default module and configuration layout than a Frontend Engineer using Type Script.
- Build tooling and processes that simplify how teams compose, build, test, and ship IDE modules.
- Create reusable libraries for IDE module authors that provide core capabilities such as Netflix Stage authn/authz, telemetry, and integrations with common Stage components.
- Work with Stage groups to discover ways of moving configuration and settings into the IDE—e.g., linking to Architectural documentation, prompting for best practices, or providing in‑IDE search or Q&A streams.
- Lay out our client value model with clients and Stage partners.
- Object‑driven mindset with the ability to understand business needs.
- Strong people and interpersonal skills to collaboratively design end‑to‑end solutions that address those needs.
- Passion and empathy for building the best possible experiences for product users.
- Comfort with working in a fast‑paced environment that is agile yet firmly aligned toward a common vision.
- Ability to work with and influence cross‑functional teams without hierarchical command.
- Experience in the engineering productivity space (IDEs, dev tooling, dev environments).
- Experience building modules for Jet Brains IDEs (e.g., IntelliJ) or extensions for VSCode.
- Proficiency with at least one JVM language (e.g., Java, Kotlin) or JavaScript/Type Script.
- Knowledge of integrating IDEs and developer tooling with backend frameworks or foundations.
