Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II
.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment including electrical, braking, cooling systems, starters/alternators, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, and related components.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck systems and components as listed above.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments and handheld devices.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate and evaluate alternatives with sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, including safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using a company-issued iOS device and TRAIT application, with photos as needed.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work with a high degree of independence and manage daily schedule.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs.
- Communicate with management and support teams to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve PO numbers, and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Maintain the company-issued service truck and conduct safety checks and daily pre-/post-trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of related experience. Alternatively, a different combination such as a degree/certification beyond HS level or 5 years in a related field may apply.
- Possess and provide a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
- Follows DOT/FMCSA regulations; must pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and a DOT physical prior to employment.
- Current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical; if four months or less remain, a DOT physical is required.
- Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain and maintain Driver Qualification File.
- Required within 18 months: ASE T8 (PMI) certification.
- Preferred: ASE T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical/Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), T8 (608/609).
- Understand the implications of new information for current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
- Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; capable of moderately heavy labor.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and sustain effort over long periods.
- Clear, concise, two-way communication with individuals and groups.
