Position: CDL A Lead Truck Driver, 1st Shift (Hartford, CT)

Overview

We are hiring a CDL A Lead Truck Driver for the 1st Shift at the Presort facility in Hartford, Connecticut. The hourly rate is $30.50, paid weekly with potential overtime. The shift runs Monday–Friday, 8:00AM–5:00PM EST, with occasional overtime, weekends or other shifts as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Communicate with the Transportation Supervisor or Manager and the Operations Team regarding any special, late, or missing pickups, and forward the information to the drivers.
  • Coordinate with production to ensure mail is dispatched on time and that all transportation tasks are completed.
  • Review pick‑up slips for USPS supplies, communicate supply requests to the drivers and verify physical container counts.
  • Inspect assigned vehicles per PBPS pre‑trip inspection guidelines daily and report any defective findings for immediate repair.
  • Recommend improvements for transportation performance.
  • Ensure mail is reviewed for proper dates, presort slugs and that a pick‑up slip is attached with each order before loading.
  • Enforce DOT compliance and assist in maintaining DOT files.
  • Maintain a daily vehicle inspection report and the driver’s log or route sheet for mileage and cargo.
  • Ensure USPS equipment is used only for "Live" mail.
  • Return client damaged or undeliverable mail following internal handling procedures.
  • Use required cell‑phone applications.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the assigned vehicle.
  • Assist in the Quality Control or Barcode department between assigned pick‑ups.
  • Fill in for drivers on any shift on any day of the week with little or no prior notice.
  • Keep the work area clean by managing mail bins, securing plastic straps, sweeping floors between pickups/deliveries and performing other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular attendance as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • Valid CDL ClassA license in the state of residence and meet all DOT requirements.
  • Minimum of 6 months verifiable driving experience with a tractor‑trailer and a safe driving record.
  • Ability to read and speak English sufficiently for public interaction, understanding traffic signs and official inquiries, and recording reports.
  • Ability to operate company vehicles and comply with Hours‑of‑Service regulations.
  • Ability to maintain a safe, courteous driving record and work with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of USPS regulations and mailing standards.
  • Ability to prepare and present reports to managers, customers and employees professionally.
  • Ability to communicate with Center Receiving about mail concerns such as missing slip or incorrect container count.
  • Understanding and execution of driver quality procedures from the Total Quality Management program.
  • Ability to read maps and directions.
  • Flexibility to work mandatory overtime, including weekends, holidays, and different shifts with little prior notice.
  • Ability to maintain delivery and pick‑up schedules and meet deadlines.
  • Problem‑solving skills for transportation challenges.
  • Lifting up to 50lbs. with or without accommodations.
