Job Description

Hartford High School (VT) is seeking a passionate, dedicated High School English Teacher for the  school year. The ideal candidate will deliver high‑quality instruction, embrace Vermont's framework for Proficiency‑Based Learning, and create an inclusive classroom environment where all students can develop a deep understanding of literature, composition, and communication skills and their real‑world applications.

About Hartford High School

Hartford High School is a public high school of approximately 500 students dedicated to the development of the ‘whole’ child. We are an inclusive, energetic, and creative community committed to academic and personal growth.

Responsibilities
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field.
  • Hold a valid Vermont English license (2‑05, 7‑12).
  • Have experience in teaching reading, writing, and literacy intervention.
Qualifications and Fit
  • Enthusiastic and student‑centered.
  • Serve as an Advisor to an assigned cohort of students, cultivating trusting, respectful, and inclusive relationships that support student accountability, personal growth, and proactive family partnerships.
  • Able to partner with parents, guardians, and administration by maintaining accurate academic records and regularly communicating student progress.
  • Knowledgeable in adapting and implementing engaging lesson plans in alignment with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English.
  • Able to utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student growth and adjust instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including one‑to‑one and small group intervention.
  • Skilled in fostering a respectful, positive, and inclusive learning environment that responds to students’ academic, social, and emotional needs.
  • Committed to working closely with department colleagues, special educators, and support staff to ensure student success.
