Job Description The Classroom Counselor will provide direct clinical services to children with emotional disturbance who attend the Alternative Program at The Wilder School (TWS). Clinical services will be provided within the classroom milieu. This position will work in partnership with educators and other counselors/clinicians to implement educational and therapeutic interventions with the students. Ongoing training and supervision will be provided by the TWS Clinical Director, TWS Principal, and the Program Coordinator for the Alternative Program at The Wilder School.The Alternative Program at The Wilder School is an educational therapeutic program serving students, grades 2 through 8, from the Hartford Area Regional Collaborative member schools. Students with severe behavioral disabilities are referred to The Alternative Program at The Wilder School by the member supervisory unions.
The goal of The Alternative Program at The Wilder School is to collaborate with the student and the family to meet each student's academic, social and emotional needs. Intensive and comprehensive education and mental health services are provided using a family centered approach. Services are highly individualized and include active parents and school partnerships. The program seeks to assist students in acquiring the skills necessary to form and maintain relationships and to be successful in a school setting.

Innovative regional alternative school and mental health treatment center for children with severe behavioral disabilities. Provides comprehensive services to children, families and member school districts in the Hartford Area Regional Collaborative region in Vermont and New Hampshire.
Job Requirements- Candidate must hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or master's degree in a relevant field of social work or psychology
Candidate must have experience working with children in an educational and/or therapeutic setting
Licensure through the Vermont Agency of Education or through the Office of Professional Regulation is preferred but not required
Strong clinical skills in understanding developmental trauma and emotional disturbances
The ability to implement research-based treatment plans
Experience in the design of behavioral support plans at school and alternative therapeutic learning environments
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and school teams
Strong crisis intervention skills.
The provision of support to educational staff
Facilitate the reintegration of students into a less restrictive educational environment - At least 2 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
