Machinist I Job Description
Position Type: 1st Shift, Full-Time Hourly
DEPARTMENT: Machine Shop
REPORTS TO: Machine Shop Manager
LOCATION: On-Site (White River Junction, VT) (Local)
POSITION SUMMARY:Machinist I is an entry-level role responsible for assisting with the setup and operation of CNC machines, performing basic machining tasks, and supporting experienced machinists as needed. This position is designed to help individuals develop skills in CNC machining through on-the-job training.
The Machinist I works under close supervision and is expected to follow detailed instructions and safety guidelines.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Typical tasks include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist in setting up and operating CNC lathes, CNC mills, and 5-axis CNC mills.
- Support experienced machinists with part loading and unloading, material handling, and general shop tasks.
- Perform basic measurements and visual inspections to verify part quality.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including cleaning machines and work surfaces.
- Follow detailed work instructions and process documentation accurately.
- Assist with routine machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting as directed.
- Record job information and inspection results as required.
- Follow all safety guidelines and wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Education:
High school diploma or GED required. - Experience:
1 year of machining experience required; mechanical aptitude or prior manufacturing exposure preferred.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced team members.
- Strong attention to detail and focus on producing quality work.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable and dependable attendance.
- Ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety and quality standards.
- Basic math skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and safely lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident due to export-controlled program requirements.
