Electrical Design Engineer III – Nuclear
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer III to support complex electrical engineering and design activities within a nuclear power environment.
This position is intended for an engineer who can solve complex technical problems with limited supervision, work with a high degree of independence, and effectively apply established engineering concepts, procedures, and nuclear design standards.
The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical power and equipment design background, specifically involving breakers, transformers, electrical buses, batteries, and switch gear, along with previous nuclear design experience.
Key Responsibilities- Perform complex electrical engineering and design assignments with limited supervision.
- Develop, review, and evaluate electrical designs and engineering documentation for nuclear facilities.
- Apply established nuclear design processes, procedures, and standards.
- Support electrical systems and equipment including:
- Circuit breakers
- Transformers
- Electrical buses
- Batteries and DC systems
- Switchgear
- Perform engineering evaluations, calculations, and technical analyses.
- Review electrical drawings, specifications, design packages, and technical documentation.
- Identify and resolve complex electrical design and equipment issues.
- Ensure engineering work complies with applicable nuclear requirements, procedures, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with engineering, operations, maintenance, and project stakeholders as needed.
- Manage increasingly complex and varied assignments with a high degree of independence.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required.
- 10+ years of electrical engineering discipline experience.
- Previous nuclear design experience required.
- Experience and/or qualification working within a nuclear-standard design process.
- Strong electrical equipment background involving breakers, transformers, electrical buses, batteries, and switch gear.
- Ability to independently handle complex electrical engineering and design assignments.
- Strong technical problem-solving, analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
This position requires an electrical power/equipment background. Candidates whose experience is primarily Instrumentation & Controls (I&C), computer systems, or software without the required electrical equipment design experience would not be the intended fit.
Preferred Qualifications- Previous Duke Energy and/or Progress Energy experience.
- Extensive nuclear power plant electrical design experience.
- Familiarity with nuclear engineering procedures, design controls, and applicable industry standards.
The ideal candidate is an experienced Nuclear Electrical Design Engineer with a BSEE, 10+ years of electrical discipline experience, prior nuclear design experience, and demonstrated knowledge of nuclear-standard design processes.
They should have strong hands-on engineering knowledge of breakers, transformers, electrical buses, batteries, and switch gear and be capable of independently handling complex nuclear electrical design assignments.
Per diem may be available for candidates who qualify. We strongly encourage veterans to apply! US citizens and those authorized to work in the US are encouraged to apply. We are unable to sponsor H1b candidates at this time.
