Job SummaryThe Dual Language Spanish Teacher creates an engaging and supportive classroom environment aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards. They design and implement rigorous, student‑centered lessons incorporating WICOR strategies while using diverse instructional practices to meet all learners’ needs. The teacher must be familiar with WIDA standards, align them to student learning, and demonstrate an understanding of second‑language acquisition to support multilingual learners.
Responsibilities include assessing student progress, supporting social‑emotional development through the MTSS framework, collaborating with colleagues, parents, and community, integrating technology and cultural diversity, and participating in professional learning communities and school improvement initiatives to enhance student achievement.
- Professional Educator License (PEL) or eligibility for an appropriate license

Terms of EmploymentThis 9‑month position offers salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education. The role retains Harvard Education Association membership and is part of the Collective Bargaining Unit.

Duties and Responsibilities- Facilitate students’ learning in alignment with the Illinois Learning Standards
- Communicate essential questions to clarify learning goals for each lesson
- Design lessons with instructional strategies ensuring all students can answer the essential question by lesson’s end
- Incorporate WICOR strategies to provide rigor
- Include three or more unique learning tasks per lesson, at least one with whole‑class verbal participation
- Assess student progress toward objectives and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration
- Assess and monitor students’ skills in their native language and English
- Create supportive, student‑centered classroom communities that promote empowerment, academic growth, and social‑emotional well‑being
- Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment
- Provide opportunities for peer collaboration, purposeful movement, and diverse instructional strategies
- Allocate instructional resources thoughtfully to support comprehension and long‑term retention
- Encourage student participation through goal setting, processing, and reflection
- Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and collaborate for appropriate accommodations
- Assist with MTSS framework support for social‑emotional and behavioral challenges
- Integrate cultural diversity and appreciation into the curriculum
- Use technology appropriately in teaching and learning
- Participate in professional learning communities with stakeholders to improve outcomes and support school improvement
- Attend meetings and professional development activities as required
- Support transition between grade levels
- Collaborate with parents and community to promote second‑language acquisition
- Provide written and verbal translation when needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee
