Job Description

Job Title: Pre-k Associate

Job Summary: The Pre‑k Educational Support Personnel (ESP) assists teachers in delivering educational instruction and behavior management in the general education classrooms, helping students reach their educational goals. They provide a variety of support and assistance, adapting to student needs.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 60 college credit hours and/or passed ETS Paraprofessional Test
  • Bilingual

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Staff.

Terms of Employment

This is a full‑time, 9‑month position covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement in the Instructional Associate category. Compensation is hourly, with pay and benefits determined by the Board of Education.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Delivers educational tasks designed by teachers to help students meet educational, academic, life skill, behavioral, physical, social, and emotional goals.
  • Assists teachers to enable learning with minimal disruptions to other students.
  • Attends to the physical needs of students.
  • Assists students in completing assignments.
  • Provides small‑group instruction and supervision as directed.
  • Provides preventive and follow‑up behavior management to students exhibiting disruptive behaviors and documents these situations.
  • Uses de‑escalation techniques to assist with behavioral non‑compliance and works with students in crisis to return to the proper academic setting.
  • Implements a variety of behavior plans for students.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, students, and parents regarding needs and concerns.
  • Uses knowledge of student needs to make necessary modifications to daily activities.
  • Assists in preparing classroom materials, including duplication, lamination, etc.
  • Assists with recess/lunch/bus duty and general assistance in hallways and classrooms.
  • Attends and participates in training opportunities, including in‑service days, department meetings, building meetings, committees, conferences, etc.
  • Complies with district confidentiality guidelines, including FERPA and IDEA.
  • Assists with translation to support students, staff, and families.
  • Performs other duties as determined by the principal or designee as needs arise.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with all children.
  • Ability to provide behavior management and crisis intervention.
  • Ability to work as a team member providing services to children with special needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others.
Physical Demands

The position requires frequent sitting and standing for extended periods; occasional lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving up to 50 pounds; repetitive bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders, or horizontally.
