Job SummaryThe Summer AVIDBridge Teacher provides engaging, student-centered instruction designed to introduce and reinforce AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) strategies for incoming junior high students. The teacher fosters a college and career readiness mindset, helping students develop skills in organization, inquiry, collaboration, reading, and writing to support their academic success.

- Part-time, hourly position for two days, August 7th and 8th, with an additional three hours of planning to be determined.
- Hours:
8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. - Compensation: $36.93 per hour
- This position does not include benefits.
Exempt
Duties and Responsibilities- Implement AVID instructional strategies, including Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR), to enhance student learning.
- Provide engaging lessons that develop students’ academic confidence, note‑taking, time management, and goal‑setting skills.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive classroom culture that encourages student agency and leadership.
- Support students in building college and career readiness skills by introducing AVID methodologies that promote independent learning and perseverance.
- Use interactive and student‑driven activities to reinforce teamwork, problem‑solving, and effective communication.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align AVID Jumpstart instruction with junior high expectations and best practices.
- Maintain ongoing communication with families to support students’ transition into junior high.
- Participate in professional learning communities and professional development related to AVID best practices.
- Assess student progress and adjust instructional approaches as needed to ensure engagement and growth.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

The physical demands of a Teacher include the ability to remain active and engaged in various classroom and therapy settings for extended periods of time. Teachers must be able to stand, sit, and move throughout the classroom and school environment to provide individualized instruction and support to students. The position requires the ability to assist students with physical disabilities, which may involve lifting, positioning, or transferring students, often using assistive devices and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
Teachers must be able to bend, kneel, crouch, and reach to assist students in activities, provide necessary interventions, and set up learning environments. Clear verbal communication is essential, requiring strong vocal projection to give instructions, model activities, and provide support during classroom or therapy sessions. Additionally, teachers must have the ability to manage classroom materials, including moving and organizing adaptive equipment, technology, and resources used for instruction.
Teachers should also be prepared to respond quickly to students’ needs, whether academic, behavioral, or emotional, while maintaining a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. The role requires flexibility to adapt to various physical environments such as classrooms, playgrounds, and therapy rooms.
