UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial is hiring an Assistant Patient Care Manager in the Medical Surgical Department in the greater Chicagoland area. This 100% onsite role is full‑time with 10‑hour shifts on days.
Pay RangeBase pay range: $/yr – $/yr.
Job DescriptionUnder the direction of the Unit Director/Manager, the Assistant Patient Care Manager leads a specific shift(s) and assumes responsibility for clinical practice, including 24‑hour accountability. The role supports coordination of care, facilitates communication for patient needs, and provides direction and counseling to unit staff. The Assistant Patient Care Manager also serves as a public relations representative for patients and families, demonstrating Ingalls Memorial’s core values and standards of service.
EssentialJob Functions
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures and standards of care.
- Observe and address all corporate compliance requirements.
- Participate in budget preparation and monitor financial performance.
- Demonstrate cost‑effective patient care.
- Maintain a positive, supportive attitude toward physicians, patients, families and staff.
- Display patience and tact when handling patient families and health professionals.
- Collaborate with physicians to clarify the patient’s plan of care.
- Demonstrate clinical expertise and provide instruction in the unit’s specialty.
- Provide leadership when coordinating patient care.
- Adhere to regulatory compliance.
- Ensure performance‑improvement data are collected in a timely manner.
- Assist the unit leader in achieving unit goals.
- Complete annual competencies.
- Round on patients and employees daily.
- Investigate and resolve customer‑related issues and communicate outcomes.
- Demonstrate excellent communication with all stakeholders.
- Follow service standards by leading by example.
- Participate in staff selection and hiring feedback.
- Act as a mentor and coach for staff.
- Evaluate staff performance and provide timely coaching.
- Facilitate RN–physician relationships.
- Ensure daily assignments are appropriate and complete.
- Support effective onboarding and preceptorship of staff.
- Maintain professional interpersonal relationships.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth and competence.
- Take on additional projects and assignments.
- Participate in leadership meetings.
- Maintain attendance and punctuality.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school.
- Current RN licensure in Illinois or a valid temporary permit.
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- 3–5 years of nursing experience in a specialty area.
- Previous leadership experience.
