Description:
The Literacy Coach ensures students receive high‑quality literacy instruction. The Literacy Coach leads the development and improvement for 10–12 teachers in a school building via training, observations, model lessons, feedback conversations, data analysis and more. The Literacy Coach serves as the literacy content expert and provides support on curriculum, high‑quality interactions, and the science of teaching reading.
Scope of Responsibility:
- Provide high‑quality professional development around effective literacy practices and the foundations of reading. Provide feedback, engage in one‑on‑one coaching, and model best practices.
- Identify where high‑quality curricula built‑in supports are not being maximized.
- Model and teach new quality literacy intervention activities.
- Coach teachers on using high‑quality, evidence‑based assessments to determine the most effective interventions required.
- Coordinate and implement high‑quality reading curriculum (CKLA & Guidebooks).
- Facilitate professional development for teachers.
- Observe teachers, provide feedback, and identify next steps to improve instruction in core ELA instruction for the purpose of support and not evaluation; monitor and coordinate interventions conducted by the classroom teacher.
- Model and teach exemplar lessons.
- Support lesson preparation using high‑quality curriculum.
- Model and support high‑quality interactions with students.
- Analyze data, identify trends, and support teachers to adjust instruction based on data.
- Support teachers with effective parent communication and family involvement.
- Communicate a belief in all students’ abilities to become successful readers.
- Attend all required meetings and trainings.
- Communicate with leadership team on school‑wide literacy progress.

Qualifications:
- Successful candidates will be detail‑oriented, independent self‑stators who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to raising student achievement and who have a record of high performance in challenging situations.
Desirable
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 effective years of experience as a certified K‑5 ELA teacher.
- Knowledge and experience with CKLA’s approach to teaching reading.
- Proven results when working with struggling readers.
- Strong knowledge of how children learn to read.
Physical Involvement:
- Sitting is required most of each workday.
- Must be able to operate office equipment.
- Standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting up to 10 pounds is sometimes required.
- Ability to provide own transportation to schools, work locations, and meeting sites.
- Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations, including locations not on the ground floor.
