We are now looking for a Workshop Technician to join our team in Harvey, LA.

What will you be doing?

As a Workshop Technician, you will support workshop operations by performing routine mechanical tasks, equipment handling, component cleaning, and technical assistance under established guidelines and procedures.

This position reports to the Workshop Supervisor.

Wärtsilä, a SMART technology company, is seeking the ideal candidate to join our fast-paced, hands-on Workshop Operations team (AMER). Candidates are expected to be adaptable, motivated, and committed to learning through structured training and repetitive practice.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform assigned technical and mechanical activities following established guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintain workshop tools and equipment, ensuring they remain in good working condition and calibrated as needed.
  • Assist in diagnosing and resolving basic technical issues within the workshop.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance workshop processes.
  • Adhere to all safety standards and protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve daily workshop goals and deadlines.
  • Handle routine stakeholder inquiries and elevate non‑routine matters as appropriate.
  • Measure and inspect components for quality and accuracy.
  • Perform repetitive daily tasks such as cleaning, grinding, sandblasting, disassembly, and reassembly of components.
  • Operate basic workshop tools including grinders, air tools, hand tools, and calibrated equipment.
  • Support the full workshop process flow: receiving components, disassembling, cleaning, inspecting, preparing for machining, reassembling, and preparing shipments.
  • Maintain documentation and records in computer systems accurately.
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
  • Mechanical experience preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to learn step‑by‑step through on‑the‑job training.
  • Basic understanding of tools, measurements, and mechanical processes.
  • Good computer literacy for documentation and record‑keeping.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
