We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Elementary Art Substitute Teacher for a one-year appointment. The successful candidate will provide engaging and dynamic art instruction to students in grades K-4, fostering creativity and a love for the arts in a supportive and inclusive environment. Additional requirements include participation in all district, building and department-level meetings and professional development activities as a valued member of our learning community.
RSD 10 has a professional learning calendar that supports both building and district-wide opportunities for departmental collaboration and this includes the Visual and Performing Arts, so the successful candidate will be a member of a well-established Professional Learning Community.
The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience in a combination of the following areas:
- Develop and implement lesson plans that meet and align with the National Core Arts Standards and incorporate a variety of artistic techniques and mediums.
- Create a positive and stimulating classroom environment that encourages student participation and creativity.
- Demonstrates Art techniques in activities and modeling, using standard and teacher-prepared instructional aides to plan lessons that provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and studio time
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
- Assess and evaluate student progress through assignments, projects, and participation.
- Ensures student partnership in reflective assessment that facilitates growth and student agency.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student success as well as any classroom concerns.
- Manage classroom behavior in a manner that creates a safe and respectful learning environment.
- Maintain and organize art supplies, ensuring materials are available and in good condition while instructing students in proper care and use of tools and equipment used in art class.
- Participate in school events, parent-teacher conferences, and professional development opportunities as required.
- Plan for, leads and organizes an Art Show in the Spring.
Required education:
Bachelor's degree in education or related subject is required CT Endorsement: 042 Art Education, Pre-K 12
