Special Education Teacher (BEST Program)
Location: Harwinton Consolidated School
Reportsto: Building Principal and Director of Student Services
Starting Date: Commencement of the 26-27 School Year
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement detailed individualized education plans (IEPs) for each student, tailored to their specific needs.
- Provide intensive 1:1 instruction in functional academics, adapting teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Collaborate closely with Behavioral Technicians and Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) to implement behavior intervention plans and support student progress.
- Work in partnership with Occupational Therapists (OTs), Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), and Physical Therapists (PTs) to provide a holistic approach to each student's education.
- Monitor and assess student progress, making necessary adjustments to instructional strategies, program books, and IEP goals.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
- Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers, providing updates on student progress and collaborating on strategies to support learning at home.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience in a combination of the following areas:
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
- Previous experience working with students with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of individualized instruction and behavior management strategies.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and a passion for making a difference in the lives of students with special needs.
