Elementary Principal - Ralya Elementary School
The Ralya Elementary Principal is responsible for overseeing all elementary school operations for grades 2-5, including instructional programs, curriculum implementation, staff supervision, student services, and daily school activities. The Principal serves as both the instructional and operational leader of the school, ensuring academic excellence and maintaining a safe, productive learning environment for all students.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provides instructional leadership for elementary curriculum, assessment, and school improvement initiatives, including MTSS, PBIS, early literacy and numeracy development, and requirements of the Michigan Department of Education; conducts regular classroom observations and serves as a leader of learning to teachers.Leads implementation of targeted professional development based on student reading data, partnering with the MTSS Coordinator / Coach, and building a collaborative system to improve reading proficiency through science of reading-aligned instruction; coordinates with Wilkshire Early Childhood Center to build on the K-1 literacy foundation.Collaborates with district leadership to advance the strategic plan at the building level; leads school-level initiatives aligned with district goals and priorities focused on improving student achievement, engagement, and well-being.Serves as an active member of the administrative team, contributing expertise on elementary practices and participating in continuous improvement efforts.Leads achievement and equity initiatives and monitors data to identify and address opportunity gaps, ensuring all students have access to rigorous and responsive instruction and support.Ensures vertical and horizontal alignment of elementary programming across the district; partners with Wilkshire Early Childhood Center (PK-1) and the middle school to support smooth student transitions and vertical continuity, and coordinates closely with Murphy Elementary, the district's other 2-5 building, to maintain consistent expectations, curriculum, and practices across both elementary schools.Develops and implements comprehensive support programs and coordinates student wellness initiatives, including mental health support services, crisis response protocols, and trauma-informed practices.Recruits, interviews, screens, and recommends qualified candidates for elementary staff positions; evaluates and reviews the performance of all assigned staff through meaningful feedback and professional growth planning.Builds authentic partnerships with families and community members, removing barriers to engagement and creating multiple pathways for involvement in student learning.Creates and maintains a safe, inclusive environment for all students and staff; implements restorative practices and developmentally appropriate, progressive discipline approaches that prioritize relationship-building and student growth.Works collaboratively with the Director of Student Services to ensure the provision of appropriate programming and services for students with diverse learning needs, including English learners and those with IEPs or 504 plans.Integrates technology purposefully to enhance teaching and learning; promotes digital citizenship and innovative instructional practices that prepare students for future success.Promotes student voice and agency through age-appropriate leadership opportunities, shared decision-making structures, and meaningful involvement in school culture initiatives.Communicates the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the elementary program to students, parents, staff, and community through multiple channels and formats.Develops, implements, and monitors the Ralya Elementary budget, ensuring resources align with school improvement priorities and equitable student outcomes.Develops the master schedule, including specials, intervention blocks, recess, and lunch; coordinates student activities and oversees daily supervision routines, including arrival, dismissal, recess, and lunch. Supervises and actively participates in school and family events, including conferences, curriculum nights, and evening activities as assigned.Ideal Candidate Profile
