Special Education Resource Teacher – Shared position between Pinecrest Elementary School (0.5 FTE) and Hastings Middle School (0.5 FTE) Position Purpose
Under the supervision of the School Principal and Director/Supervisor of Special Services, the Special Education Teacher will work to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs in academics, social skills, and other needs identified by the IEP team while implementing district‑approved curriculum; document teaching and student progress/activities and outcomes; address students’ specific needs; and provide a safe and optimal learning environment.

- Salary Range per the Teacher Master Agreement: $50,951 – $88,905

- Qualifications:
7 - Required Certification:
Minnesota Certification as a Special Education Teacher. - Preferred Certification: K-12 Minnesota licensure in one of the following domains:
Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD), Emotional Behavior Disorders (EBD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or Academic Behavior Strategist (ABS) - Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. - Become and maintain certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI); training is provided by the district.
- Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level and disability domains preferred.
- Lead and direct the implementation of students’ Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior management plans, including leadership and communication regarding problem solving and proactive behavioral planning.
- Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to identify learning issues and recommend courses of action or corrective procedures to overcome issues and maximize learning, including Functional Behavioral Assessments.
- Participate in Child Study Review Team discussions and assist in developing IEPs for students.
- Coordinate with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions, including state and federal authorities as needed.
- Continue to acquire professional knowledge and stay current with developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with higher‑learning institutions and the business community.
- Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record‑keeping as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement in students’ education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills to parents, students, staff, and administrators.
- Work with a team of professionals to meet the needs of students.
- Collaborate with and provide direction to paraprofessionals.
- Proficiently meet deadlines and manage daily record‑keeping and other due‑process related tasks.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Director/Supervisor of Special Services, and other central office administrators designated by the Superintendent.
