Job Summary:

Electronically control all access to, from, and inside the jail via computer terminal while guiding staff, law enforcement, professional visits and the public within the facility while maintaining jail safety and security according to facility policies and procedures. Promptly dispatch corrections staff to location of alarms and emergency situations. Provide radio communications and other means of communication to support the operations of the jail and contact other law enforcement agencies as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must pass ALL recruitment and pre-employment requirements listed below to become a Control Room Operator. Candidates who are unable to successfully pass the requirements below will be removed from further consideration.
1. Educational/Experience

Qualifications:

candidates must meet the minimum qualifications as listed on the posting and be able to produce appropriate documentation.
2. Interviews:
Candidates will be asked to complete a series of interviews; this may include phone interviews, oral board interviews and/or interviews with the Sheriff and Chief Deputy.
3. Background Check: candidates must pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the Dakota County Sheriff's Office. Applicants must meet standards regarding acceptable driving and conviction records, law enforcement contacts, employment history, and honesty. Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma/GED AND

  • Two years of full-time work experience from any industry or employer. Convert any part-time experience to full years (i.e. 20 hours week for 2 years equals 1-year full time). Do not round up years of experience (i.e. 2 yrs. 9 mos. would equal 2 years).
OR

• A completed 2-year degree or higher in any field.

"Safety-sensitive position" means a position, including any supervisory or management position, in which impairment caused by drug, alcohol, or cannabis use would threaten the health and safety of any person as defined in Minnesota Statutes Section 181.950, subdivision 13.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Represent the Sheriff's Office in a positive, professional manner.
  • Build and maintains positive working relationships.
  • Maintain standards of dress in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Understand and complies with policy and procedure to include Sheriff's Office memorandums, directives, and notices.
  • Maintain officer safety and situational awareness.
  • Provide credible and truthful reporting and testimony as needed.
  • Monitor security precautions and control the movement of inmates & staff within the secure area of the Dakota County jail via monitors and control panel access or keys control.
  • Electronically control all doors within the jail.
  • Monitor, detect, and facilitate a response to requests/needs for emergency assistance.
  • Monitor weather conditions and provide weather updates to the jail sergeant.
  • Maintain building security log for after-hours personnel.
  • Report non-compliance of safety or security related policies to Jail Sergeant.
  • Maintain continuous monitoring of several alarm systems.
  • Log all inmate departures and arrivals from work release and STS programs.
  • Conduct radio checks prior to the start of each new shift.
  • Receive calls from the public and other law enforcement agencies during and after business hours.
  • Maintain all fax, radio, telephone, television, computers, and equipment in Master Control and arrange for repairs as needed.
