Compensation: $13,600 per year + potential for campus housing included
Position Overview & Purpose
Hastings College is seeking a Sculpture Artist in Residence - Adjunct Faculty member. This position is specifically envisioned for an artist looking to build valuable teaching and exhibition experience while continuing to develop their own studio practice.
In this role, you will teach assigned courses in your field of expertise in accordance with the department's learning objectives. You will be responsible for developing and managing course syllabi and ensuring that curriculum and instruction align with the College's educational expectations. This residency offers a unique dual-mentorship dynamic: the Artist in Residence will have the opportunity to be mentored by experienced college faculty while simultaneously serving as a mentor to undergraduate students.
Responsibilities and Duties
Essential Functions
- Culminating Exhibition: Prepare and execute a solo exhibition of original work in the Jackson Dinsdale Art Center (JDAC) small gallery at the end of the academic year.
- Curriculum Management: Develop and manage course syllabi to ensure teaching aligns with the College's learning expectations.
- Instructional Excellence: Maintain a high level of expertise in the content being taught. Use up-to-date materials and techniques that challenge thinking, foster debate, and develop students' capabilities for critical discourse and rational thinking.
- Lesson Delivery: Create and execute meaningful lessons designed to work toward designated learning outcomes, continually finding ways to keep the subject vibrant, interesting, and engaging.
- Classroom Management: Ensure classes and final course meetings are held exactly as scheduled. Provide an honest and positive classroom environment that establishes rapport and fosters respect.

Collaboration:
Consistently model a high degree of customer service and student focus. Work collaboratively to support fellow team members and professionally represent Hastings College at all times. - Teaching Load: Teach two classes per semester, including courses tailored for Jackson Scholars and general education students.
- Student Support & Mentorship: Serve as a mentor to undergraduate art students. Keep students updated regarding professor hours of availability, course content, requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance policies.
- Grading & Progress: Provide students with prompt grading and mid-term progress reports to keep them accurately informed of their academic progress.
- Departmental Engagement: Participate in designated meetings and mandatory trainings, and learn to operate any new job-related programs and equipment as required.

Consistently model a high degree of student focus. Work collaboratively to support fellow team members and professionally represent Hastings College at all times.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Preferred: Master of Fine Arts (MFA) (Recent MFA graduates are encouraged to apply).
- Experience: Prior teaching and/or professional experience in the academic field is helpful but not required.
- Required: Master's degree in the discipline.
