The Director of the Doerr Center for Civic Engagement provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for the Center, fostering a culture of civic responsibility and community engagement among students, faculty, and staff. The Director provides both long-term and day-to-day direction for community-facing, academic and co-curricular civic initiatives that are sustainable, reciprocal, effective, and of the highest quality. This position is crucial in advancing Hastings College's mission to send forth creative, curious, and caring students who thrive as citizens and leaders of their local and global communities.

This is a five-year grant funded role renewed and reviewed annually as resources are available.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the Center that aligns with Hastings College's vision and mission, focusing on measurable outcomes and impact.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate civic engagement into the curriculum, reflecting Hastings College's commitment to Liberal Arts Learning and fostering the development of students as citizens and leaders.
  • With a focus on rural Nebraska, cultivate and maintain strong relationships with community partners, ensuring that the Center's activities are relevant and responsive to community needs, reflecting our commitment to engagement, service and support.
  • Assess and evaluate the effectiveness of civic engagement programs, ensuring alignment with Hastings College's mission and strategic goals.
  • Promote and celebrate the achievements of students and faculty involved in civic engagement activities, highlighting their contributions to the community and furthering the College's vision.
  • Manage the Center's budget and resources effectively, ensuring the sustainability of its programs and initiatives.
  • Engage in grant-writing or fundraising that supports the mission and goals of the Center.
  • Commitment to teach up to 8 credit hours per year as directed by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Education & Experience:
  • Masters Degree and/or credentials necessary for teaching.
  • Experience in developing and implementing successful civic or community engagement programs.
  • Experience in grant-writing and/or fundraising.
  • Experience managing and guiding development of professional staff.
  • Experience and knowledge of Nebraska and the surrounding region.
