Visiting Instructor in Sociology
Hastings College seeks to hire a visiting instructor in sociology to begin August 2026. This is a nine-month position, teaching three courses (12 credit hours) per semester. This position will be housed in the department of psychology and sociology, a welcoming and collaborative department of seven full-time faculty members. Our department is active on campus and highly engaged in the shared governance structure of the college.
This position will teach primarily sociology courses, with some courses also counting towards the major/minor in criminology. Additional duties include: holding office hours, assessment of student learning, and attending department meetings, with the option to attend division and full-faculty meetings. The ideal candidate will be comfortable teaching: introduction to sociology, sociological theory, social problems, and gender, race, and crime.
Responsibilities:
- Teach a variety of sociology courses.
- Instruct within the block schedule, utilizing eight-week terms to facilitate focused, immersive learning.
- Contribute to departmental and institutional initiatives.
Qualifications and experience:
- Ph.D. in sociology preferred, master's degree required.
- Experience teaching introduction to sociology.
- Experience with face-to-face courses and inclusive pedagogy.
- Experience with a student-athlete population.
- Experience with canvas (learning management system) preferred.
