Description of work

Performs a variety of tasks involved with safely and efficiently monitoring and operating coal fired and natural gas fired power plant equipment outside of the Control Room within prescribed operating guidelines. Operate fuel or electric auxiliary boiler. Operate (DCS and equipment) fuel oil fired/natural gas turbine power plant facility.

qualifications

Any combination of training, experience or education equivalent to completion of high school, with preference given for knowledge of, and experience with, steam boilers and turbine/generators. Must possess a valid driver's license.

Essential functions of the job
  • Inspects, starts and stops motors, fans and pumps during startups, shutdowns and on-line operation of the plant.
  • Opens, closes or adjusts valves, dampers, etc to assure proper operating conditions.
  • Records hourly readings and makes periodic inspections of turbine generators, steam generators, Air Quality Control System, and the auxiliary equipment for each to ensure proper operating conditions, and reports unusual events or operating conditions to the Shift Foreman.
  • Makes routine adjustments to equipment as indicated by inspections.
  • Inspects and regulates water treatment systems for proper operation, and assists plant Chemists by maintaining proper levels/quality of makeup water in storage.
  • Operates boiler flash and FGD ash removal systems, and monitors water wells, cooling towers.
  • Reads and interprets plant diagrams, drawings, etc.
  • Performs Lock Out/Tag Out procedures to ensure maintenance and inspections of equipment can be completed safely.

This is a non-exempt (hourly). Hours are 12-hour rotating shifts.

Residency requirement

30 minutes from duty station (per Google Maps) within six month of date of hire.
