Probation Officer Assistant
LocationHastings, NE
Responsibilities- Meet, interview, and confer with probationers through home visits and office meetings; monitor and document progress.
- Assist in monitoring offenders through electronic/GPS monitoring under direction of a Probation Officer to ensure compliance with court regulations.
- Assist with pre-sentence investigations and evaluations of candidates being considered for probation.
- Prepare, update, and submit a variety of reports and/or databases including progress updates, court appearance paperwork, home-visit logs, and location reports.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Associate degree or 63 hours of coursework from a four‑year college in a related field, or 2 years of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- Consideration will be given to candidates receiving their degree within 120 days of application.
- All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Knowledge of basic principles, practices, and procedures of probation services, federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and procedures, department rules, probation techniques, report writing, interviewing techniques, and tracking technologies.
- Skills in making home visits, interviewing probationers, tracking probationers’ location(s), utilizing probation and protective techniques, applying applicable laws, rules, and regulations, preparing activity reports, updating databases, operating computers and applicable software applications, and utilizing communication and interpersonal skills in interactions with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, and others.
- Physical ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
