SUMMARYThe Firefighter-EMT is a dual role position having emergency medical care responsibilities in addition to firefighter duties. Depending on the nature of the emergency, the Firefighter-EMT will suppress fires, perform rescues and extrication, provide basic life support medical intervention, and other hazard control activities. Work is often carried out under stressful conditions in the presence of physical, environmental, contagious disease, and chemical hazards.
QUALIFICATIONS- High school diploma or GED at time of application.
- By date of hire, must be 18 years of age or older.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Position subject to annual NFPA 1582 physical, department determined annual physical ability test, and SCBA fit test.
- Valid Nebraska driver’s license along with ability to be insured by the city’s insurance carrier to drive city vehicles.
- State of Nebraska EMT license must be obtained within 1 year of hire and maintained throughout duration of employment.
- Firefighter I and Firefighter II (IFSAC or Pro Board certified) must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
- NIMS ICD 100, 200, 700, 800 must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
If offered a conditional offer of employment, the following items must be completed: a thorough background investigation, drug screen, medical examination, physical assessment, psychological examination, fingerprinting, and sign an employment commitment agreement.

HOURSThe Hastings Fire and Rescue Department operates with three shifts. Each shift is on duty for 24 hours, and off for 48 hours. Employees are required to work holidays and weekends. Wages are based on 54 hours per week.
