Position Summary:

Under general supervision, counsels and educates patients and guarantors as it relates to healthcare expenses by utilizing estimates, payment arrangements, various programs, and financial assistance to enhance customer satisfaction by eliminating financial concerns and supporting the financial stability of the organization.

Position Responsibilities:

Manage and maintain work queues to ensure timely and effective account resolution.
Respond to walk-in and phone inquiries regarding billing, payment plans, and financial assistance with professionalism and tact.
Contact patients/guarantors to update demographics, verify coverage, and explain financial responsibility.
Prepare patient liability estimates for insured and uninsured patients.
Collect, post, and reconcile payments (cash, check, credit card) and issue receipts as requested.
Counsel patients on financial assistance programs; process applications and required documentation per policy.
Assist uninsured patients with Medicaid applications, including presumptive and emergency filings, in coordination with DHS.
Coordinate meetings with patients and families and provide requested financial documents to patients and third‑party payors.
Process correspondence including bankruptcy notices, probate claims, crime victim requests, and maintain accurate records in the EHR.
Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies; support policy updates, regulatory compliance, and report concerns appropriately.

Required Qualifications (Including Any Licensure, Certification, Education):

Two years of higher education and/or two years of comparable work experience in a medical billing office, collections, or patient financial counseling.
Equivalent combination of education and experience that would demonstrate the capability to perform the duties of the position.
Become a certified application counselor (CAC) through the Marketplace within 6 months of hire, if not already obtained.
Complete the Medicaid presumptive eligibility training, within 6 months of hire, if not already obtained.
