Inside Sales Associate

The Inside Sales Associate is a key member of the Barry County Lumber team, responsible for delivering an exceptional in-store experience and helping customers find the right products for their projects. This role is customer-facing and directly reflects our brand — through product knowledge, proactive communication, and a genuine commitment to making every visit count.

• Assist customers in person and by phone with courtesy, urgency, and product expertise.
• Proactively engage customers who may need guidance, product advice, or project recommendations.
• Compute and quote small estimates for customers that do not require a blueprint takeoff.
• Facilitate special orders, ensuring accurate processing and timely follow-through with customers.
• Perform special services such as key cutting, merchandise demonstrations, and other customer-specific requests.
• Handle customer complaints promptly and professionally; elevate to management when needed.

• Assist with stocking, merchandising, and maintaining a well-organized sales floor.
• Monitor inventory levels and advise management of shortages to maintain proper stock.
• Monitor for shoplifting and respond in accordance with company policy.
• Maintain accuracy in all transactions including cash, credit, and check handling.

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2+ years of experience in sales or customer service
• Knowledge of construction materials and products
• Familiarity with local building codes
• Strong computer skills; ability to learn multiple software platforms
• Experience with point-of-sale systems and cash handling procedures
• Strong attention to detail in recording transactions

• 90%+ climate-controlled retail environment
• Requires standing for extended periods; bending, reaching, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs
